Backstreet Bliss at Sense of Touch LKF

My poor little liver is going to take quite a hammering this week, I can’t possibly say no to chilled glasses of Perrier Jouet, and Godiva choccies on the passing trays, it would be quite rude! Oh yes, it is time again for MasterCard Luxury Week Hong Kong, our very own homage to fashion and all things beautiful.
Now I will need to look fabulous for the shows of course (got to keep up with the Jones’ you know…), so I thought I would treat myself to a facial and destress treatment before the storm, so where else better than the flagship LKF Sense of Touch, a.k.a “The Best Day Spa in Hong Kong” (AsiaSpa awards 2009). Not the most obvious place for a spa I must say, bang in the middle of Lan Kwai Fong, just where one normally sees drunken bankers on their tenth pint, playing air guitar to ‘Eye of the Tiger’, I of course wouldn’t dream of doing a thing like that! During the daylight hours, LKF is actually surprisingly quiet and serene. Five floors of pampering awaits, with seven treatment rooms, tastefully decorated in mellow caramel tones, and chakra inspired lighting, its no wonder Sense of Touch have won so many awards, they simply know exactly what they are doing, and they do it well.

The Nitty Gritty
The gentle chimes of the relaxing music, and dark mocha hues definitely put me in the mood to relax from the moment I walked into my personal spa suite. This treatment uses the fabulous ‘Aromatherapy Associates’ product line, which Sense of Touch is the soul independent spa supplier in Hong Kong. The ‘Touch Facial’ uses the superb ‘Renew’ range, which deeply moisturises and brightens even the most sensitive of skin with English garden rose, and hints of frankencense. It took me right back to my Granny’s summerhouse as a child making daisy chains in the rose garden! The treatment starts off with a thirty minute relaxing back massage to put you in the mood, then the therapist concentrates on your face and head for fifty glorious minutes. I have to be honest, I normally find facials quite dull. It is common practice for the therapist to whack a mud mask on your face, flick the play switch on an ipod and ask you to relax for twenty minutes while she leaves the room. In that time I inevitably need the loo or have a ridiculously itchy left foot. But during ‘The Touch Facial’ I was pampered and massaged for the whole eighty minutes. I often judge a treatment by my ability to know what’s going on. It’s a ‘no no’ if I can tell exactly what’s being put on my face, or be lucid enough to notice the therapists every move. Needless to say I woke myself up with a guttural snorish grunt (which I tried to style out…), so it passed my test. All in all, it was a fabulous facial, my skin glowed and I felt bright eyed and bushy tailed. I just can’t wait for an excuse to go back!
